» An operation paid for by Fair Trade premiums

Ms. Saradha (48) has been working for 25 years as a field worker at the rubber tree nursery at New Ambadi estate in India. Her husband has some health problems so her and her sons must pay for the families upkeep.
Her 21-year-old daughter Sandhia is married and her 19 year old son, Samil Kumar is doing well by able studying electrical engineering. The family lives in a very simple brick house with three small rooms and the kitchen is a constructed of planks and has a plastic roof. The house has electricity but the family still have to fetch water from a neighbours’ well.
In January 2009, Ms. Saradha had to have an operation. Her health insurance paid only Rs 4000 of the RS 7000 bill. However with the help of our Fair Trade Fund the balance of the bill was paid an Ms. Saradha is now fully recovered.
